Only used by hard core computer geeks and programmers until only a few years ago, an additional monitor is becoming more and more mainstream today. There are plenty of reasons why you could use one today. If you think you may get something out of having an extra monitor, then this article is for you. The most obvious reason is that it simply gives you more space on your desktop. You quickly double size of your computer real estate, which means you can have twice as many windows open. For example, if you like to watch videos while you do other things, then having an extra monitor would be perfect. Simply grab whatever video you'd like to watch, open it in another window, and move it over to your other monitor. Another great use of having an extra monitor is video conferencing. If you are talking to somebody about something relatively important, like work for example, you can have a document open on one monitor with all the important information, and have the actual video conference window open in full screen mode on the other monitor. This will make you much more efficient, and much more productive.If you do any work from home, or telecommuting, then this is essential.
Another compelling reason to get an additional monitor is if you like building websites as a hobby, or as a business. Having two, or even three monitors can help a great deal when designing a new site. You can have your coding page open on your main screen, and have a browser open showing the current rendition of the site, and have it update in real time. That way you can make minor changes in code and see immediately how it will affect the final product. This can be a great time saver.
Of course, these are just a few simple ideas of why you should get an additional monitor. I'm sure that you can think of plenty more by now. And once you start using another one, you'll wonder how in the world you managed to get by with only one.
